Vincent Bilotta, Green Screen Portrait Booth

An installation that will generate and show 300-500 portraits of Greene County Occupants.

I need a 40' X 20' retail space with >12' ceiling. I will setup a 4 light portrait studio with a greenscreen so high quality individual and group portraits may be composited quickly into a background that shows a Greene County landscape or waterfall.

For a $2 fee, the sitter/sitters will receive a 4" X 6" color print framed. For another $1 they will receive a CD with their images.

A second print will be placed in the window of the retail space to attract sitters and show a cross section of Greene County Occupants. Those not from Greene County will be offered a portrait done for commercial price.

Along with whatever promotion and advertising GCCA does, I would like
promotion done using the Mountaintop Pennysaver and other local
publications.

I will have working hours of 4pm to 8pm 3 days a week for the 10 weeks
of the project. this will allow me to make arrangements with those who have special needs to do their portrait at their convenience. Several Greene County Laundromats are willing to host promotional material that will encourage many Greene County residents to participate.

My ambition and goal is to develop alternative models to orthodox Fine Art business models. I also believe that it is critical to the vitality of the Arts that artists develop a broad base market for their work to sell in. Without a large demographic of artists supporting themselves by the sale of their work, the Arts are severed from the political
dialogue. I also assume that shooting many hundred portraits will greatly enrich my skillset.

  1. MAYBE needs more details on how this relates to Occupy, perhaps some different backgrounds for the shots? Also don't agree with one price for locals and another for "visitors" ("outsiders"). Commercial ventures' profit splits are being discussed by organizers

  2. I like this project. I would suggest that the backdrop/green screen be a scene from Zuccotti Park, during the occupation. No charge for service or straight donation to GCAC.

  3. I think he would include a selection of backdrops which clients could choose. I like it too and he is passionate about art for everybody.

  4. i like paul's idea for the backdrop with a selection too. the fee i think though is tied to wages for working artists ---- an important issue, though not sure this actually addresses it. it would be fun for people to have portraits --- may engage people who might not otherwise feel involved...

  5. Yes. I appreciate Paul's comment to tie the work in more with other works and OWS in general.

  6. Agreed backdrop of protest - good vehicle with which people may become the face of movement immediately. I like the tie in to laundromats.
