Sam Truitt, Earth Day Action

Occupy the Rip Van Winkle Bridge on Earth Day (Sunday, April 22)

I envision on April 22 (Earth Day) at noon people from the East and West sides of the Hudson River converging on the walkway of the Rip Van Winkle Bridge. A large banner would be unfurled at the center of the bridge on which would be written "Earth day." There might be other things that happen, but I don't envision more than this simple human act.

  1. NO. prefer to keep the action directly on Main Street. Plus suicides off this bridge will mean security will be tight and we don't want to attract police confrontations.

  2. This is one of the few bridges that welcomes pedestrian traffic. It is only a few blocks off Main Street and might be a context for Laurie Arbeiter's t-shirt proposal if Earth Day is one of her group's issues.

  3. I would concede this to worries about the security apparatus getting juiced up. It could be run by the local police, but maybe too much hassle.

  4. i wonder if they will do a hands across the bridge event again this year (As last fall?). Perhaps we could collaborate with them? apologies that i don't remember the organizers (hence "they") but Olana was involved.
